Fireside Lodge Fishing News Report 5/27 to 6/3 2006
Back for their fourth trip to Fireside Lodge was Bill Kossow, dad Charles, Time Rowe, and John Shetlar from Salina and Marysville, KS. Bill, Tim, and John all brought there sons Kamen, Matt, and Logan who were very excited to be here for their first time and first Canadian Fishing Adventure.
Another group, back for their second year, related to the above group consisted of Joby Jobson from Prairie Village, KS, Joby Jobson 111 from Overland Park, KS., George Riley from Merriam, KS., and Charles Starnes from Arlington, TX. A story very worth mentioning is that Joby and Joby 111 being father and son and Joby 111 being Tim Rowe’s father law means that Matt was fishing with his father, grandfather, and great grandfather to make a four generation fishing trip for this family. Also, Charles, Bill, and Kamen Kassow are father, son , and grandson. What a wonderful memory recorded for these four and three generations of families fishing together. Hear for a short three days they got right to it as the first day Charles, Bill, and Kamen caught over 100 Northern Pike and Kamen had a ball walking through the portage as he stopped every few minutes to look at something or chase a frog. Tim and Matt caught 10 fish and Tim landed a Master Anglers Award 18.5 inch Smallmouth, and John and Logan caught about 24 Smallmouth with Logan landing a lot of bigger Smallmouth including a BIG Bulging 17.5 inch Smallie. The second day had Tim, Matt, and George catching over 90 Northern Pike, and Matt caught the most at 47 . Bill, Kamen, and Charles caught many Smallmouth Bass, and Kamen caught three Master Anglers Award Smallmouth from 18 inches to 19 inches. John and Logan also did very well Smallmouth fishing for the second day in a row, and Logan landed his first Master Anglers Award Smallmouth measuring 18.5 inches, and John also caught one at 18 inches. Father and son Joby and Joby 111 caught some nice fish, and Joby caught a heavy 35 inch Northern Pike. On their last day John and Logan caught 24 Northern Pike and a few Smallmouth, Tim and Matt did very well catching Smallmouth and bigger Northern Pike, and Matt caught his first Master Angler Smallmouth measuring 18.5 inches. Bill, Charles, and Kamen also had a fabulous day catching Smallmouth and Northern Pike with Kamen catching another Master Anglers Award Smallmouth at 18.5 inches, and Charles ended up landing two Musky with light line and no leader. One being a big 37 inch brute. You can see a lot of this groups catches on our Weekly Photo Page at or website at http://www.firesidelodge.com Upon departure Bill expressed that he had a dream trip fishing in Canada with his son and father, and made memories that are priceless. All had loads of fun and I even got a hug from Matt and Kamen and a good healthy hand shake from Logan upon departure. Wonderful memories were had by all in this group.
Brother and Sister Jon Bosman from Westchester, OH. And Donna Quiroz from Minong, WI. Were at Fireside Lodge for their fist time. Since both Jon’s wife and Donna’s husband do not fish these two get together and fish. Both had fun for their 4 days and caught some nice Northern Pike, and on the first day Donna was so surprised when a Musky tried to attack here lure while fishing for Smallmouth that she quickly jerked it away so as to not loose her Smallmouth lure. Well, Jon was making fun of this at supper time and we all had a few laughs about Donna’s reaction. They both had an adventure as the made it to Cedarbough and Jon had to get in the water to pull their boat over a fallen log. While looking for Smallmouth Bass both ended up hooking and landing a Musky, and Donna met the challenge this time around. Both had a fun stay at Fireside Lodge and made some Brother and Sister memories.
Josh and Amanda horn from Henderson, TN. Were referred to Fireside Lodge by good friends and long time Fireside Lodge guests Brian and Kay Butterfield. Brian and Kay were very envious of their friends going to Fireside Lodge, and wanted to come with them in the worst way, however had other commitments with family. This was Josh and Amanda’s first time ever in Canada fishing and they had a wonderful time enjoying all of the wilderness and beauty this part of Canada has to offer. After a day of learning the lake and catching a few fish Josh and Amanda hiked through the bush to a portage lake and caught 35 Northern Pike, and had loads of fun with the whole experience. The fourth day they caught both Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike, with both catching their largest Pike ever, and Amanda also caught her first a biggest Smallmouth Bass, a Big Fat 16.5 incher. Their fourth and final day they enjoyed a shore lunch over an open fire by Twin Falls, which is a beautiful natural falls, where Little Vermillion spills into another lake. The also had a very good fishing day with Amanda catching her Biggest Pike ever for a second day in a row, measuring a Big Heavy 31.5 inches. Josh had a highlight landing his first Musky ever and it was nice size measuring in at 34 inches. Both took great pictures and you can view these on our website at http://www.firesidelodge.com under the weekly Photos 2006 page. Both had a wonderful experience, made special memories at Fireside Lodge and intend on making another trip soon, maybe with Kay and Brian. I know they would not have to twist their arms to come. To Josh and Amanda, Thanks for choosing Fireside Lodge to make your first set of memories in Canada fishing.
Scott and Larry Siebenthal from Creve Coeur, IL were back to fish at Fireside Lodge for their year. Toothy Critters only for this father and son as they love to fish for Northern Pike. Day of arrival they boated about 12 to get started and get the rust off. First full day they caught 17 before supper but got driven in by some violent thunder storms. Their second day on the water was just fabulous as they caught a lot of Northern Pike, 30 with none under 31 inches, landed three at 35 inches, one 36 inches two 37 inches and Larry caught two Master Anglers Award Northern Pike one measuring 41.5 inches and the other was a HUGE 43 inch fish with a large girth. Larry also ended up catching two Tiger Musky on this day, both in the mid 30 inch range. The next day Scott picked up where his father left off the day before, as first thing in the morning he hooked and caught a 42.5 inch Master Angler Award Northern Pike. WOW, this father and son combo caught three Master Anglers Award Northern Pike within a 24 hour time span. For the rest of the week they continued to catch the toothy critters, landed approximately 75 Northern Pike 31 to 34 inches, 5 Tiger Musky including two at 39 inches, and three Musky 31” to 36”. Both also managed to catch two Master Anglers Smallmouth one 18.5 inches and the other was 19 inches. Last Day they finished strong and caught 27 nice Northern Pike including a 38 inch Pike with a huge girth, and sent them home with smiles on their face in anticipation of next year. Return guests, father and son Rob and Nick Krebs from Burnsville, MN. came with first time guests, son and father, Mike and John Gusdorff from Creve Coeur, MO. First day out all did well catching some Northern Pike and a lot of Smallmouth, with Mike alone landing 49 Smallmouth Bass up to a Master Anglers Award Smallmouth measuring 18 inches. The next two days Rob and Nick had loads of fun, Rob landed a 37 inch heavy Northern Pike, and while Nick was trying to land a HUGE Northern Pike, one of a lifetime, they had this monster in and out of the net twice, and on the third attempt the hook got caught in the netting and the fish swam away waving goodbye to Rob and Nick with it’s tail as they stood there in the state of shock and excitement. Both thought they had a big enough net, but obviously not, as they estimated this fish between 44 to 46 inches. This was their last day as they had to return home for a family event. Meanwhile Mike was tearing up the Smallmouth Bass as he caught 69 on his second day and 66 on his third day. The last day Mike and John caught 76 Smallmouth Bass and Mike, who does a lot of Smallmouth fishing back home, commented that the Smallmouth fishing for his four days was fabulous. All went home having a great trip.
Catches of the week; 43, 42.5, and 41 inch Northern Pike, 19” Smallmouth Bass, and 14 Master Anglers fish were caught.
