Fireside Lodge Fishing News Report 6/2 to 6/9 2007

Hello from Fireside Lodge in Northwest Ontario, Canada. We have just completed or third week of the fishing season and we have had welcome rain to give our water levels a much needed boost.

Bill Goodwin from Wilmington, DE. returned to Fireside Lodge for his fourth consecutive year, twice with his wife Rosanna, and this year they met good friends Mike and Darlene Dittoe from Rockwall, TX. First day out Bill and Rosanna caught 16 Smallmouth Bass, one Musky, and Mike and Darlene caught several Smallmouth. The next day had Bill and Rosanna catching another 16 Smallmouth, Mike and Darlene catching 12. After a slow third day their fourth and fifth days were much better catching 108 Smallmouth for these two days. All four enjoyed each others company in the great wilderness atmosphere we offer at Fireside Lodge, and were found laughing and enjoying at their dinning room table at every meal.

Dick Davis returned to Fireside Lodge for his 5th year in a row and this time with good friend Philip (with 1 L) Shelby both from Noblesville, IN. Dick has always come with a large group in the fall, and decided to make two trips to Fireside Lodge this year. Loads of fun was had by these two catching both Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike. These two had several slower days, but had two days catching over 20 or better Smallmouth Bass, caught some good Northern Pike, including a 36 inch Pike for Dick, and Phil landed a big 38.5 inch Northern Pike. They finished strong on their last day catching 34 BIG Smallmouth bass including 4 Master Anglers Award sizes, Dick with two 18 inch Smallmouth and Phil landing an 18 incher and a HUGE 19 inch Smallmouth Bass. Each expressed the great time they had during their stay, and Dick is already looking forward to his return in September.

George Carney and father in law Tom Miller from Madison WI., were fishing at Fireside Lodge for their 4th consecutive year. These two always have a blast together and obviously have a special relationship. Every day is a good day fishing for Tom and George, and does not depend on what they catch. First couple of days they caught some nice Smallmouth Bass and Tom was first to set the bar catching an 18.5 inch Master Anglers Award Smallmouth. They had a GREAT third day catching 34 Smallmouth Bass, most being bigger, and George caught 4 Master Anglers Award Smallmouth two measuring 18 inches and the other two were 18.5 inches. The last two days were very good despite the winds, and on the last evening they went our just to watch the last beautiful Canadian sunset for their trip. Great finish on another memory filled trip to Fireside Lodge.

Father and son John and Anthony Bellizzi from Cumming, IA were fishing at Fireside Lodge for their first time ever. First day they caught 33 Smallmouth Bass, including a lot of bigger Smallies. They both landed a Master Anglers Award Smallmouth one at 18.25 and the other at 18.50 inches. Another day they spent catching more Smallmouth and a few nice Northern Pike. On the other two days of their 4 day stay they went to an out lake and caught about 20-25 walleye per day along with 15 to 20 Northern Pike. This father and son had a very memorable experience at Fireside Lodge and hope to return again soon.

Father and son Michael and John(Hank) Gustorf from St Louis, and Creve Coeur, MO returned to Fireside Lodge with good friends Paul Denk and Bill Weishaar from St Louis and Chesterfield, MO. They were here for four days of fishing and had an absolute ball. First day out Bill caught an over 40 inch Musky with a fine assist from Paul. They rest of the three days they caught Smallmouth and Northern and just had a fun time fishing and enjoying our great wilderness atmosphere. Mike and Hank did excellent catching between 50 to 80 Smallmouth Bass every day with a few toothy critters mixed in the bunch. Hank is 80 years old and both Mike and Hank made another set of father and son fishing memories. Thanks for choosing Fireside Lodge to do so.

Mitch Kane and Vic Howard from Hayward, WI and Joliet, IL returned to Fireside Lodge for their 6th time. These two had their best trip ever to Fireside Lodge, and quoted from them, “The best fishing trip ever.” They
Had several days with over 50 Smallmouth Bass. Another day they caught 40 by noon and ended up wit 60, and on the last day they caught Vic’s age which was 64, and Mitch ended his fishing trip his traditional way, with a fish at the end of his line on the last cast of his trip. These two not only caught numbers, but on some days they caught a lot of very large fish. They caught 11 Master Anglers Award Smallmouth, Vic with 4 between 18 to 18.5 inches and Mitch accounting for the other 7 between 18 and two toping 19 inches. They also caught many 16 to 17.5 inch Smallmouth. Both went home with smiles discussing their future return to Fireside Lodge. I want to take a moment to wish Mitch and his fiancée a wonderful future together as the will be married in October of 2007.

Gary Rose returned to Fireside Lodge for his 10th time, and was with Bob Dimski for his 3rd trip, and both are from Mid West City, OK. The came in style flying into Sioux Lookout in Bob’s plane. With these two the plain numbers tell the story. They fish only for Smallmouth Bass and on the evening of arrival they caught 20, then from here the gates opened up as they caught 54, 60, and on their last day caught 112 Smallmouth Bass. They also spent one day not fishing for Smallmouth at an out lake and caught 11 nice walleye and about 15 Northern Pike. In the Smallmouth category a lot of bigger fish were caught in the 15 to 17.5 inch range. Gary also landed a 37 inch Musky on lite Smallmouth Bass tackle. Both had an absolute ball, time was much too short, but they made the best of every minute
