Fireside Lodge Fishing News Report 6/3 to 6/10 2006
Hello From Fireside Lodge in Northwest Ontario, Canada. The weather has been fantastic this spring with mild and consistent temperatures throughout our first two weeks.
Our third week started off with Bill Goodwin, from Wilmington, De. returning to Fireside Lodge for his third consecutive year, and this time, his wife Rosanna came with him for her first visit. It was also her first fishing license ever, despite the fact that Bill has been an avid Smallmouth fisher all his life. Well, first day out they caught 25 Smallmouth and Rosanna did very well landing 6 nice Smallmouth. Second day they caught a combination of over 50 Smallmouth Bass, and Rosanna more that doubled her first days catch with fourteen. The third day they caught 39 Smallmouth, most were bigger, and Rosanna caught two 16.5 inchers, and Bill caught a Master Anglers Award Smallmouth Bass measuring 18 inches. I commend these two as they fish only until 3:00 PM, and are in sitting on their deck enjoying the surroundings and good conversation until supper time, and then just relax the rest of the evening. Rosanna really caught on fast, and looks as if Bill has a new fishing partner. The fourth day was a very good bigger Smallmouth day, as they caught many fish 15 to 18 inch, and Rosanna caught her first Master Anglers Award Smallmouth, a very heavy 18 incher, and she also caught her first Northern Pike. Bill showed his fishing ability, as while Smallmouth fishing with a little lure, 6lb test line and no leader hooked, and managed to land a 37 inch Musky. What a great catch. Their fifth and final day they did well catching less per day than the other days, but all were big quality fish. Rosanna and Bill left just the way they came to Fireside, with a BIG grin on their faces and enjoying every minute of their time together. Thanks for choosing Fireside Lodge to spend these special moments, and make some of your personal memories together.
First time guests Dick, John, and Andy DeMore from Sioux Falls, SD. and Lucien Miller from The Colony, TX. Were here to have fun and refresh their fishing skills, which have been not been applied for a few years. Right from the start you can tell these four were at Fireside to have loads of fun and laughs. First day they spent feeling their way around the lake trying to get familiar, and caught a few fish and saw a lot of fish. Second day the started to catch some fish and landed about 12 Northern Pike, and again had many Northern Pike follows. Third day they figured things out and caught over 30 Northern Pike and even though Lucien only caught one all day, what a fish it was, as he ended up landing the fish of a lifetime. You can view his Master Anglers Award Northern Pike catch of 44 inches on our website http://www.firesidelodge.com under the “Weekly Photos 2006” page. Because of travel schedules they only fished until 11:00 AM on their forth and final day, but they did well catching Northern Pike again, and this time John caught the fish of his life, and most fishers lives, as he landed a Master Anglers Award Tiger Musky which measured 44 inches. WOW!! This fish was a Giant, not only length wise but had a HUGE girth. You will also see this photo on our website. All had a very good time, and made many memories to add to their memory logs. Thanks for choosing Fireside Lodge to do so.
Elwin and Marilynn Coll from Ray, MI. along with Bill Mueller from Chippewa Falls, WI. Were at Fireside Lodge for their first time. All three were very excited to be at Fireside Lodge for their first time, and their first Canadian Fishing Adventure. The first day they caught a few Northern Pike, saw some nice follows, and explored some of the lake system. The second day they caught more Northern Pike and a good number of Smallmouth Bass with each catching Smallmouth 16 to 16.5 inches. Their third and final day they had a good day fishing, and catching as Bill caught a 34 inch Northern and Elwin caught a very large 19 inch Master Anglers Award Smallmouth. This catch can also be viewed on our website. All had fun and discussed the possibility of returning to Fireside Lodge in the near future.
Aaron and Michele Hayes from North Aurora, IL. Were back to Fireside Lodge for their first time ever in the spring. Their usual time to come is 1st week in September, but decided to take two trips to Fireside Lodge this year. Their first day was like most other guests on this day, as they encountered a lot of Northern Pike, 30 plus, which would just follow their lures but would not hit. They caught a few and Michelle landed a HUE Smallmouth which was close to a Master Anglers size, but because of the way the fish was hooked they passed on a measurement to get the fish back to the water as soon as possible. Second day they caught a few Northern Pike and missed a Musky, and the third day was good for catching some good size Northern Pike Aaron landing the largest at 38 inches. The fourth day was full of action catching a lot of 30 inch and over Northern Pike, and Michele had one hit right at the boat, which really gets your attention. They had a great fifth day as they landed 29 Northern Pike with a lot of 30 to 35 inch fish and had lots of action. The last day was the icing on the cake catching 16 Northern Pike and Michele hooked a landed a fish of a lifetime which was a BIG 45 inch Musky. Have a look at this MONSTER on our Weekly Photo Page at http://www.firesidelodge.com There are several pictures including a great photo of Aaron releasing this huge lunker. Both had a fabulous trip and are looking forward to returning in September.
First time guests James and Leo Chmielowier from Red Oak, IA. And Pearland, Tx. were very excited to finally be here at Fireside Lodge. First day out they did well Smallmouth fishing as they landed 21, but Leo said he lost 8 to 10 for every one he caught. Being that the Smallmouth were in the spawning process they were just picking Leo’s lure up and moving it our of the area of the spawning beds. The next two day were a little slower but they did catch both Northern Pike and Smallmouth and were very excited to tell me about the Moose and Baby calf they saw on the lake while fishing. That is the true beauty of fishing in our Wilderness atmosphere at Fireside Lodge. Several other days they caught 16 and 20 Smallmouth and had plenty of action and fun with these scrappy fighters. Jim and Leo had a very good time and it looked like they could have stayed and fished another week.
Couple Dave and Joyce Wenck and Neil and Jan Fredrick, all from Hudson, WI. Were at Fireside Lodge for their first time. The first day on the water they did not catch numbers, but did catch some quality Northern Pike, landing some fish in the mid 30 inch range. After a review of location and deciding that they were fishing too shallow, that evening Dave and Neil landed several nice size Northern Pike within an hour, and then they got pushed off the water by a thunder storm. The next day they caught some nice fish, with the best being Dave’s 34 inch Northern Pike, and Joyce topped them all by catching a GAINT 41 inch Tiger Musky. It had a huge body and head and look for it on our Weekly Photos 2006 page on our website at http://www.firesidelodge.com It is quite a picture, and does Joyce ever know how to hold a BIG fish. I know a lot of fishers that can take a lesson or two from Joyce. The third a final day of their three day stay they had a shore lunch which is always a fun way to eat a hot lunch. They also caught some very nice toothy critters and this time it was Jan with the catch of the day as she caught her first ever Musky, and what a beauty it was. Congratulations Jan, as it is always exciting to catch your first Muskie. These four were smiling from ear to ear upon arrival and departure from Fireside Lodge, and were inquiring about a return trip. Hope to see all again.
Eric Jensen and Chris Walsh from Basking Ridge and Montclair, NJ. were at Fireside Lodge for their first time. On their day of arrival they caught some nice Smallmouth Bass and Eric caught a 40 inch Master Anglers Award Northern Pike. See this monster on our website at our Weekly Photo 2006 page at http://www.firesidelodge.com These two are avid Smallmouth fishers and on their first day caught about 150 Smallmouth, and Chris landed two Master Anglers Award Smallmouth measuring 18 and 19 inches. They also caught a lot of nice size fish which really made it a special Smallmouth day. Second day fishing they caught 80 to 90 Smallmouth, and the fish did run a little smaller that the first day, but still caught some nice size Smallmouth. The third day they did a portage and caught 50-60 Northern Pike and 12 nice walleye between 18 to 25 inches. On their fourth and final day they had a fabulous day fishing for Smallmouth Bass as the caught well over 100 but qualified 75 Smallmouth between 15 to 18 inches and Eric caught 5 Master Anglers Award Smallmouth between 18 to 19.5 inches, and Chris lost what both thought to be a 20 plus and possibly over 21 inch MONSTER Smallmouth Bass.. In all they caught 10 Master Anglers Award fish 9 being Smallmouth Bass 1 Northern Pike, Chris also caught his first Musky ever. Both said they had the best Smallmouth fishing day of their lives. They had such a GREAT trip they reserved their dates for 2007 before leaving. Thanks and looking forward to seeing both next year.
