2006 Fireside Lodge Pre Season Report

2006 Fireside Lodge Pre Season Report

Hello from Fireside Lodge in Northwest Ontario. Winter has finally come to an end in the North Country and even though there is still snow everywhere you look, and fifteen inches of ice covers the lake from shore to shore, definite signs of spring have arrived. The small bird populations have been migrating, the magnificent Bald Eagles have arrived, Seagulls are showing up in the open water rapids between connecting lakes, and our resident Ravens have started refreshing the nest at the Lodge. Still to come are the arrival of Sand Hill Cranes, migrating Geese of all species, the Common Loon, and the many more migrating birds and waterfowl that summer in this wonderful Northern Paradise. Also the bush is coming to life as we have heard the mating cry of the Red Fox, Otters are seen regularly scooting across the ice, Grouse are out and about, Moose are on the move, and Black Bear will soon be emerging from their winter dens. Audrey and I are preparing to start our seventeenth season at Fireside Lodge, and at this point are every anxious to get to Fireside Lodge to start the opening process. It will still be a few weeks until the snow melts enough so we can actually start working at he Lodge. We are even more anxious for our opening day, May 20th, when we start receiving guests, previous and new, who will be very excited to spend some of their hard earned vacation time fishing in this great wilderness setting that Fireside Lodge has to offer. I just had a funny thought, that as I write this, with opening day about five weeks away, Audrey and I just yesterday skate skied, (a form of cross country), to Rangers Point and back, and that evening had a wonderful Northern Lights show which we viewed from our deck. Over 200 photos from the 2005 fishing season can be viewed on our website at www.firesidelodge.com and will be found on the Weekly Photo Page. Also, photos from 1999 to 2004 can be viewed on the Current Photos page. Thanks to all who have submitted pictures over the years to make these pages possible. For those reading this which will be joining us for the 2006 season these pictures will give a preview excitement for your days soon to come fishing at Fireside Lodge, and for those of you not able to join us this year, it will help you keep in touch by virtual reality. Also you can go to our website above and read our weekly fishing reports which I write and post throughout season. For those of you still considering a fishing trip for this year please call or email Audrey or I to check availability at 800-545-0815, or fireside@xplornet.com
Audrey and I wish everyone the very best in their life and the pursuit of happiness, and hope to see you at Fireside Lodge one day to help add to your memory log.
